Sustainable development
SINOSAB introduce the concept of sustainable development management in 2011. SABIC HQ issues the sustainability KPIs to SINOSAB every year (includes GHG, Energy, Water and Waste) for energy saving and consumption reducing purpose. In particularly, SINOSAB is the first company in North China which is capable of calculating the sustainability independently.
Greenhouse Gas
In order to achieve these goals in SINOSAB, since the T/A in 2012, the company implemented a variety of technical measures and operation optimizations, including ET plant air pre-heater projects, new added methane delivery line and phenol incinerator modification project to save fuel consumption; EO/EG high load operation and CGC optimization to reduce outsourcing the steam; Optimization of Circulation Water System in Polymers to shut down one circulation water pump and to save power.
Energy
For the energy consumption in SINOSAB, in addition to the fuel consumption, outsourced steam and electricity which is stated in GHG emission, it also includes naphtha and LPG, etc. The majority of the fuel in SINOSAB comes from power plant. Based on different requirements in each plant, the needed steam is classified to four levels (SHP, HP, MP and LP). Part of the HP and MP steam is self-generated. All LP steam is self-generated and all SHP steam is outsourced.
In order to improve the company's energy efficiency and to reduce the energy costs, in 2014, the energy audit and clean production audit were performed to analyze the potential of energy conservation in each plant and to propose feasible technical modifications to truly realize energy conservation, consumption reduction, pollution mitigation and efficiency improvement. At present, it is planned to build up energy management system in 2016 and the energy management in SINOSAB will leap to a new stage.
Water protection
The water environment situation is very severe in China. There’re a variety of geological disasters, such as serious surface water pollution, ground subsidence caused by groundwater exploitation without control. In order to save the water and to reduce the discharged waste water, there’re many optimizations in SINOSAB. Such as, waste water recycle, sending the waste water from 1st Cooling Water Station to 2nd Cooling Water Station, utilizing RO water as the makeup of circulation water, reducing the consumption of fresh water, maximally improving the utilization of desalinated sea water and improving the concentration of circulation water, etc. All these measures will contribute in saving water consumption cost and reducing water intensity.
Waste management
The waste, as defined by SINOSAB, is the difference between input and output, which covers the organized emission and fugitive emission. This will offer the data support for the VOC program around the corner.
